(1989) Society

Society is one of the better, albeit most ridiculous black comedy horror movies I’ve seen in a long time.

The first 3/4 of the movie is kind of a whirlwind of paranoia as our lead, Billy is bombarded with hints that his family is hiding something sinister. The film centers around the obvious message that the rich suck off the poor but Brian Yuzna manages to stretch this relatively simple concept into one of the most bizarre movies I’ve ever seen.

As a comedy, the humor really is entirely in its ridiculousness and over-the-top grotesque representation of the societal elites. However, there are some childish jokes in here which, while make for a funny snapchat to send to your friends, are pretty unnecessary. When Billy first calls his dad a “butt-head” it’s kind of funny but mostly stupid, then it ties directly into the finale and becomes hilarious; then unfortunately Yuzna has his lead say it one last time and it becomes stupid again.

That really is my only possible complaint here because the 30min long finale is a fucking body horror masterpiece of epic proportions. I literally couldn’t wipe a smile off my face the entire time. It was like coming home from a week long vacation with your family and busting that first nut to some interracial porn. You like that greasy white sausage you dirty little bitch? Wait, what were we talking about again?
