(1959) House on Haunted Hill

I apologize if this review is really sloppy but I’m falling asleep and I need to squeeze it in really quickly.

House on Haunted Hill is a really fun, campy style horror movie that has it’s share of scares but for the most part, ages to be pretty silly. It blends the supernatural into the practical story effectively. The very low budget set design manages to work out well and it’s supported by some decent acting.

Sorry in advance but the remake is better than the original. “Dude wtf the remake is so shitty.” Yeah, well, you’re probably right but I happen to love the remake. It’s actually pretty scary, or at least it was when I first saw it as a kid. Much like the doctor moves through the security footage in the remake, the original managed to make the first ghost look scary through a mix of a real actress and a stiff methodically moving prop.

It’s a solid popcorn movie, not much else.
