(1974) It’s Alive

This film is nonsensical in its plot, the acting is campy and the effects are totally cheesy. This is one of those great, self aware b-movies. I just kind of had the revelation that there’s definitely a huge difference between the so-bad-it’s-good films and b-movies.

Larry Cohen knows how to craft a fun film around a simple idea and the characters seem to be in on it to. No one really takes any convincing to jump to wild conclusions and everyone’s actions are comically predictable.

This is just beer drinking horror, don’t expect much and you’ll be rewarded.

  1. Yeah, Ben, I saw this when I was a teenager and wondered what all the fuss was about. As a kid, we used to have midnight showings at a particular theater and the radio ads were crazy. It sounded like this was the ultimate scare fest. When I saw it, I remembered thinking how incredibly cheesy but fun it was. Good review!

    1. That’s funny that it was marketed as a scary movie. Definitely cheesy but I enjoyed it! The next two movies on my list are one you recommended by the way, Th Legend of Hell House and Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things. Looking forward to watching them!
