Let me first say that the actual true story about Unit 731 is a disgusting atrocity and just goes to show that war invokes an unprecedented level of evil in people. I wasn’t aware that the Japanese had committed war crimes on par with the Nazis.
I don’t really want to delve into the facts of Unit 731, let’s just talk about the film itself because it’s pretty great. It’s angry and almost aggressively unfiltered account of the atrocities that occurred at this bioweapon research facility. In that respect, I truly wouldn’t classify any of the fucked up shit that occurs here in the torture porn genre.
There is a story and of course an overall prospect of revenge and salvation for our prisoners. It really rounds out the film nicely and doesn’t detract from the intensity that’s ever present.
I really dug this is found it super unique; it also will 100% lead to a Wikipedia binge which is always nice for losing even more hours of sleep. I really stress though, this one is not for the squeamish, it’s fucking brutal.
