(1925) The Phantom of the Opera

Jumping into another semi-silent film here and the big question is, is this still an enjoyable watch today? I’m going to say it certainly is. It’s no Nosferatu or Vampyr but Lon Chaney is creepy as fuck.

Not only does Chaney look great but the labyrinth of the Opera house is also visually stunning. I’m hesitant to call this a haunted house movie but the set itself does play a pretty large role in the horror aspects of this film.

That’s all that I need to say, this one definitely deserves a watch, even just to appreciate what they were able to accomplish given the technical limitations of that time period.
