Disclaimer: If this looks at all interesting to you, go see it.
I don’t think Emma Roberts is a good actress nor do I think little Sally Draper holding a knife is scary (she’s not a great actress either). If feels weird being 27, laying in bed eating fruit snacks while talking shit about a 17 year old girls acting but I just don’t think she was fit for this role. Both those performances took me out of the movie completely.
With that being said, I think this was a step up for Perkins. Despite being made before his latest flop, this movie had its own story. I didn’t find the story entirely original but the slow pacing and character timeline cuts made it at least interesting. The girls boarding school is always a tried and true, charming location for a horror film. It’s lonely, dreary and fits nicely into the winter backdrop.
However, this just didn’t work for me on a core level and I have to trust my gut. I found myself an hour into the film, bored, waiting for something to happen. I understand and appreciate slow burn horror but Perkins lit my candle and let it die out unfortunately.
Also, it was a really intelligent perspective on the effects of female adole-
No I’m just kidding.

You know I am really hoping Oz finds a movie. Maybe he just has to crank out a few bad ones before he hits his stride. I love Sam Raimi but Evil Dead only gave glimpses of the artist he would become.

He’s certainly not making lazy films so as long as the ambition exists, he’ll get one eventually.
Raimi is great but I have to admit I think Evil Dead is his masterpiece. I get what you mean though, on a technical level he definitely grew from there but that movie is just pure nostalgia for me. I watch it every single year and it hasn’t gotten old yet!
Have you been watching Ash vs The Evil Dead? I’m really enjoying it so far although I’m not quite caught up yet.

I love Ash vs Evil Dead. As a matter of fact, I am watching Evil Dead now. The first time I saw it, I couldn’t appreciate it because I was drunk. I do enjoy it though. Sam is one of my favorite directors. I loved Dark Man. Just tell me Bruce Campbell is in something & I will happily sit through it. Although I am waiting for him to find his “moment.”

Oh nice! I hope you enjoy it even more this time around. I actually haven’t Darkman but I’ll add it to my list. I agree Bruce Campbell is just great, such a charismatic guy. He still has plenty of acting left in him, I’d love to see him in a pure comedy movie at some point. I think he could be great in one of those.

Well, I am working on creating that script so maybe in a few years. 😉

I am, Ben. Working on it now. As a matter of fact, I actually have a short story that I wrote expressly with him in mind. It is a drama and probably not typical “Bruce Campbell” material.

I hope you enjoy it. It definitely isn’t a comedy but I don’t think Bruce has wandered into this type of territory in a while.

I read your story twice and I really loved it. It felt very personal and your actual writing technique was on point. The car crash scene was portrayed abruptly but clearly. I think I’d like a little more substance in between the scene of the crash and the aftermath of dealing with it but I’m nitpicking. I actually scrapped my own short story after reading this because I realized it lacked that real quality yours has. I really enjoyed reading your work Susan, send me anything else you write and I’d be glad to read it.

I really enjoyed the feedback, Ben. Thank you for that point. I appreciate you taking the time to read it. For whatever reason, Bruce was sort of the muse for Angel. If you ever get bored, you can take a spin around my blog. Happy Anniversary, Baby is interesting. Once again, I appreciate the read!
