(1990) The Exorcist 3

This movie, for a film following such an iconic movie, being a third film in a series, is just bafflingly good.

The original writer of the first film is returning and his script as well as directorial product both deliver. All the performances are excellent and the special effects, all basically practical (minus a few) are just fucking fantastic. It’s to the point that I would consider this body horror, at least in the finale of the film.

The flaws are really sparse and mainly just detail oriented. It’s obviously not as groundbreaking as the first film but wow, I recommend this to everyone.

(1983) Sleepaway Camp

This is such an iconic slasher and there are several aspects that make it way ahead of its time. The main one being the absolutely legendary, blind-sided ending. The other being the camp environment that’s genuinely populated by actual teenagers.

People try to claim this as some genius movie though and let me say bluntly, it’s not a good movie. I love it, it’s entertaining as shit but it’s also fucking bad. The acting is sloppy, the effects are sloppy and the overall execution is so fumbled that it baffles me how some could rate it so highly.

5/10

(1979) The Amityville Horror

There’s a lot of creepy aspects to this film and it actually approaches the paranormal aspect in a way which hadn’t been done before. I do like James Brolin’s character, he’s odd and the axe sharpening is somewhat iconic.

The film has both pacing issues as well as dialogue issues. With that being said though, the finale in sinister as fuck and really brings life, quite literally, to this evil house.

7/10

(2018) Overlord

I loved it. I thought it would be a traditional zombie movie and the circumstances would be the twist but it was its own thing. It’s kind of difficult to describe but I think action-war-horror would be the closest thing I could pin it too.

Jovan Adepo was a great fucking lead. He has incredible screen presence and his performance wasn’t too overstated, as to not overshadow some great supporting actors.

Overall though, this movie is just a ton of fun.

8/10

(2019) Joker

I’m totally blown away, despite even expecting to be blown away by Joaquin’s performance as The Joker. It’s my favorite comic book origin story to date and just a remarkable achievement. To have a Batman-universe film stand out this much among all the others is incredible.

This film intentionally evokes almost every emotion until a raw, chilling finale. Gotham is unkempt, unstable and teetering.

I fucking love this movie.
